We know that a lot of people don’t even consider coming to Mallorca in the winter, so we thought it would be a good idea to show you the winter side of things, so you can get to know and love Mallorca just as much as we do.

winter Our top 10 favourite things to do in Winter are:

1- Trip to the beach

As fun as it going to the beach during the summer months (and spending most of the time trying to find a place to lay your towel), we love going to the beach on a cold winter’s day, taking a stroll with that lovely Mediterranean breeze, the cold sand between your toes and that lovely smell of salt.

2- Palma, Palma de Mallorca

Palma is such a beautiful place, yes it might get a bit quieter and definitely a bit cooler during the winter but our favourite thing about Palma is that everything stays open all year round. For us the best time to go to is in December when everywhere is covered in lights and it just feels so Christmassy.

Another thing not to miss out on, is having one of the hot chocolates that they do in most of the cafes in Palma, which are so thick you could probably eat it with a spoon(don’t forget the Churros). We have to treat ourselves sometimes, right?

3-Santa Catalina

In the Winter, Santa Catalina is the place to be with tapas restaurants everywhere you look & a glass of wine ready to be served. Also every single bar looks inviting, our favourite places for cocktails are Bar Cuba, Havanna & Idem.

So why not spend a day shopping and finish it off with a variety of tapas?

4- Going back to the gym (followed by a couple of hours of pampering)

I don’t know about you but with this Majorcan heat us girls just seem to forget what the gym even is, as a day on the beach or by the pool sounds so much more appealing, so it does get to that point, when we have to start considering signing back up to the gym. What we do is first we hit the gym & then we hit the spa, this way the gym part seems that little bit more interesting, don’t you think?

5- Christmas x2

Living in Mallorca means we get to celebrate Christmas twice, once on the 25th of December and again on the 6th of January (we’re not complaining), which is Three Kings Day in Spain. Father Christmas is a cultural import in Spain, as Spanish children have for many years received their Christmas gifts from the Three Kings. Parades take place all over the island on the evening of the 5th of January and are a must for families. A great way to see a Spanish tradition in action.

6- The January sales

The sales in Palma normally start at the beginning of January. This gives us the chance to hunt down all of Palma’s generous discounts and truly take advantage.

7- The markets

Our favourite markets during the winter are:

-Mercat Olivar & Santa Catalina Market: Two lovely indoor markets, which are the perfect places to stock up on all your fresh fish, fruit & vegetables.

The Santa Catalina market is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 8:00 until 13:00.

The Mercat Olivar market is open from Monday to Saturday from 7:00h to 14:30h and on Fridays from 14:30-20:00h.

8- Cycling & Marathons

The mild climate here in Mallorca makes it perfect for any kind of sporting activity: touring, hiking or running.

On the 18th of October, the TUI marathon took place . At 14:00, everybody joined in to do the pasta party and at 17:00, over 2000 children from 2 to 12 year olds took part, all the children received a medal, a certificate and a snack.

9-The almond blossoms

It’s those times in Mallorca that we love, like when you are driving down those typical mallorcan streets and all the almond trees have just finished blossoming and you suddenly realise just how beautiful the island really is.

10- Hiking to see the snow

We don’t normally have many white christmases over here, which is a shame…. but there is one way we do get to see a little bit of  snow which is: hiking. If you don’t live on the edge, you won’t ever see the view.
